The chapel of Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, New York. Joining the brothers for their daily rhythms is such a source of refreshment, and thanks to the good people of Moorestown Presbyterian in New Jersey for letting me join them on a recent retreat.
This piece was published in the Christian Century a while back. Thanks a bunch to the generous editorial team at the Century for helping to make the piece stronger.
Editorial note: it's worth saying that this piece came out before Tish Harrison Warren caused a bit of stir with her suggestion that congregations cease offering online worship. Although I'm not convinced by her suggestion, it seems a great opportunity to ask about what bodies mean for our ecclesiology. Many disability advocates have rightfully asked questions about her piece. Some who have responded to my article, I think, have interpreted me in the shadow of those concerns. I look forward to learning and responding to those who offered constructive thoughts.
